Summary The European Central Bank is likely to change its stance on interest rates next year.
BRATISLAVA: Governing council member Jozef Makuch said Friday, "The ECB governing council didn t discuss a change in interest rates within the eurozone at its meeting yesterday, but the question will be on the table in the future unless the situation in the eurozone improves, which is unlikely."
"We can expect a change in the ECB s interest rates next year," he added.
On Thursday, ECB chief Mario Draghi acknowledged that there was dissent in the governing council over a decision to keep borrowing costs at their current historic low of 0.75 percent.
With the economic gloom deepening in the 17-nation eurozone, many ECB watchers believe there is room for additional monetary easing.
