Summary Government has reduced the prices of 600 items at the Utility Stores outlets.
The government also issued a notification to reduce the prices of 600 items by Rs5 to Rs22 at the utility stores which is effective from Sunday July 15, 2012.Under Ramazan Relief Package 2012 the USC has reduced the prices of 16 daily essential items up to Rs.15 per kg for which the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet had already approved the package worth Rs.2.5 billion subsidy.Out of 16 essential items Rs.15 per kg reduction has been approved in the prices of Ghee/oil where as the prices of rice, pulses, small gram, white gram, dates, ‘chakki basin’ Sella rice and broken rice reduced by Rs.10 under Ramzan Relief Package.10 per cent reduction has been taken place in the prices of spices and beverages including Rooh-i-Afza etc and Rs.6 per kg in the price of floor.More than one thousand food and non-food items including branded beverages has also been made available on subsidized rates on USC general stores comprising more than 5700 stores.It is pertinent to mention here that the government had given a subsidy worth Rs 2.2 billion for Ramazan relief package in last year and now USC has asked the government to give a subsidy worth Rs 2.5 billion.
