Summary

The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet has allowed the Ministry of Industries and Production to import 100,000 tons of sugar to meet the sugar demands in the country. The committee also approved to fix the intervention prices of various rice types at Rs 600 to 1250 per 40kg. The Committees meeting was held under the chairmanship of Federal Minister for Finance, Shaukat Tarin. He directed Ministry of Industries to take stern action against the culprits responsible for creating hurdles in smooth supply of sugar to the Utility Stores. The committee decided to give a subsidy to meet the additional charges of Rs 1.5 billion on the transportation of fertilizer in the country from Gwadar Port. The committee also allowed the provinces to transport the imported wheat in the country that was lying at the Karachi Air Port. The meeting approved the proposal of giving Rs 1.7 billion guarantee to improve Telephone Industry of Pakistan. Ministry of Food and Agriculture withdrew the summary of fixing intervention prices of cotton seeds in the meeting.
