ECC approves Ramazan Package

The Economic Coordination Committee of the Cabinet (ECC) met under the chairmanship of Shaukat Tarin, Minister for Finance at the Prime Minister Secretariat on Tuesday, the Finance Ministry said. In compliance with the Prime Ministers directives, the ECC approved the Ramazan Package to provide immediate relief to the common man. According to the Ramazan Package, following relief measures will be taken. The Utility Stores Corporation will sell 100,000 tons of sugar from utility stores outlets at Rs.38 per kg during Ramadan. Instead of the agreed upon 100,000 tonnes of flour, at Rs.2 per kg less than the market, 150,000 tonnes will be sold from utility store outlets. Instead of the agreed upon 30,000 tonnes of ghee/oil, 50,000 tons be made available at Rs.91 per kg. The regulatory duty of 25 percent will be suspended on the import of potato to facilitate its easy availability during Ramazan and assure its release and discourage hoarding and artificial price increase. The ECC waived the condition of presentation of ID card for purchasing items from USC.
