ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) has introduced Pakistan's Space-Based Augmentation System (Pak-SBAS), aimed at providing more accurate and reliable positioning, navigation and timing services.
According to a SUPARCO spokesperson, the system is being operated through Pakistan's communication satellite PAKSAT-MM1 and is designed to enhance the accuracy and reliability of navigation services.
The Pak-SBAS technology is currently being used at the Thal Desert Rally, where it is helping improve the safety and efficiency of vehicle racing through more precise positioning and navigation support.
Meanwhile, interest among international companies in providing satellite internet services in Pakistan is growing, with six satellite internet companies having registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP).
Four new companies were registered following the establishment of the Pakistan Space Activities Regulatory Board. These include Aether One, Flinavotics, Galaxy Space and SpaceP, while Starlink and SpaceCell Pakistan have also been registered as local companies.
The SECP has submitted a report on the registration of satellite internet companies to the Senate Standing Committee, following a request from committee chairman Rana Mahmood-ul-Hassan.
