US asks China to help end Iran war

Updated on:

The US has sought China's help to end the Iran conflict, while Trump claims talks with Tehran are progressing positively and reiterates his stance on Iran's nuclear programme.

WASHINGTON (Dunya News) – The United States has reportedly asked China to help bring an end to the ongoing conflict with Iran, according to a report by The Washington Post.

The newspaper reported that US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent contacted Beijing at the direction of President Donald Trump, requesting Chinese assistance in efforts to end the war. China has reportedly conveyed Washington's message to Tehran.

According to the report, US Vice President JD Vance is leading diplomatic efforts with Iran. Vance also reportedly sent a letter to Iranian security chief Mohsen Rezaei last month as part of the diplomatic outreach.

The report added that Iranian leaders are assessing whether Washington's policy towards Tehran could change following the US midterm elections.

Trump had also reportedly sought Chinese President Xi Jinping's assistance on the Iran issue during their meeting in September.

Meanwhile, Trump said Washington was engaged in discussions with Iran and that negotiations were progressing positively.

"We are talking to Iran, and we are doing very well," Trump said, adding that the United States had achieved encouraging results in its dealings with Tehran.

The US president also claimed that Iran had been severely defeated and described the Strait of Hormuz as fully open. He further stated that the United States had not lost any military personnel over a period of six to seven months.

In a separate post on his Truth Social platform, Trump reiterated his position on Iran's nuclear programme, claiming that preventing Tehran from developing nuclear weapons had saved Israel and the wider Middle East.

He argued that without those efforts, Israel and the entire Middle East might not exist today, adding that although some were unwilling to acknowledge it, the claim was true.
