WASHINGTON (Dunya News) - Women voters turned out in significant numbers in the US midterm elections, with a majority supporting Democrats' candidates, according to a survey.

The survey found that women accounted for 53 per cent of voters, compared with 46 per cent men.

Among female voters, 58 per cent cast their ballots for Democratic candidates, while 40 per cent supported Republicans, highlighting a clear preference for the Democratic Party among women.

Male voters, however, were almost evenly divided between the two major parties.

According to the survey, 49 per cent of men voted for Democratic candidates, while an equal proportion supported Republican candidates.

The findings highlight a notable gender divide in voting preferences, with women showing stronger support for Democratic candidates, while male voters were split equally between Democrats and Republicans.

Earlier, Democrats have captured control of both chambers of the US Congress in the 2026 midterm elections, defeating Republicans in a sweeping nationwide victory that dealt a major blow to President Donald Trump's administration and reflected widespread voter dissatisfaction with his leadership.

According to media projections and election results, Democrats secured majorities in the House of Representatives and Senate, making significant gains in traditionally Republican strongholds, including South Carolina, Kansas, Texas, Iowa and Ohio.

The results marked a major shift in the political landscape, with voters expressing frustration over rising living costs, higher fuel prices, Trump's tariffs and the US war against Iran, which began in February.

The Democratic victories will give the opposition greater power to challenge Trump's legislative agenda, investigate his administration and exercise congressional oversight during the final two years of his presidency.
