ISPR DG warns Afghan Taliban against supporting militancy in Pakistan

In an interview with foreign media outlet, Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said India was the biggest sponsor of terrorism in Pakistan

RAWALPINDI (Dunya News) - Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry has warned that the Afghan Taliban regime will face serious consequences if it fails to stop supporting terrorism in Pakistan.

In an interview with foreign media outlet, Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said India was the biggest sponsor of terrorism in Pakistan, while the Afghan Taliban regime was operating as an Indian proxy.

He described terrorist organisations, including the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), as Indian proxies against Pakistan, alleging that the Afghan Taliban were using non-state actors and mercenaries to pursue their objectives.

The military spokesperson said Afghanistan remained under the influence of non-state actors, adding that several intelligence agencies and proxy groups had established roots there following Russia's intervention in the country.

He also pointed to the presence of international terrorist organisations, including Jaish al-Adl, Al-Qaeda and Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISKP), in Afghanistan.

Lt Gen Chaudhry said Pakistan's sole demand was that the Afghan Taliban stop supporting militants operating inside Pakistan.

He alleged that the regime had provided shelter to TTP chief Noor Wali Mehsud, Bashir Zeb and Gul Bahadur, while militant formations and weapons were being supplied from Afghan territory.

He warned that failure to address Islamabad's concerns would carry serious consequences.

The DG ISPR also urged the international community to press the Afghan Taliban to act as a responsible state, curb narcotics cultivation and production, and address security concerns.

He asserted that Pakistan's armed forces were fully capable of countering all threats emanating from Afghanistan, including drone attacks.
