GILGIT (Dunya News) – Independence Day is being celebrated across Gilgit-Baltistan with national enthusiasm and patriotic spirit on November 1, marking the region's liberation from Dogra rule in 1947.

On November 1, 1947, the people of Gilgit-Baltistan achieved victory in their struggle against Dogra rule and for accession to Pakistan.

On that day, the Gilgit Scouts and local fighters bravely fought against Indian forces and hoisted the Pakistani flag in the region. Following a year of struggle, Baltistan was also liberated from Indian control on August 14, 1948.

During the liberation struggle, brave fighters from Gilgit-Baltistan defeated their adversaries and prevented the region from coming under Indian control.

The battles fought during the liberation movement are regarded as significant chapters of military valour. Even after independence, the people of Gilgit-Baltistan demonstrated courage and played a notable role in the Pakistan-India wars.

Meanwhile, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) has released a special patriotic song, titled Shaan-e-Pakistan, Gilgit-Baltistan, to mark the region's Independence Day.

The song features poetry by renowned Gilgit-Baltistan poet Zeeshan Mehdi, performed in the powerful voice of singer JJ Ali Sheena.

The patriotic song reflects the people's devotion to Pakistan, their national identity and deep emotional connection with the country. It also highlights Gilgit-Baltistan's historic struggle for freedom and the pride associated with its connection to Pakistan.
