GUJRANWALA (Dunya News) - The prime suspect accused of killing a bride on her wedding reception day was killed in an alleged police encounter in Punjab's Gujranwala district.

According to sources, the suspect, identified as Sarfraz, had been hiding in another province along with his accomplices. The Crime Control Department (CCD) was bringing the suspects back after arresting them when their associates opened fire on the police.

Sarfraz was reportedly killed by gunfire from his own accomplices during the exchange of fire.

Sources said the suspects had been frequently changing their locations and were arrested last night. His female accomplice, Arooba, and other suspects are currently in custody.

Sarfraz had allegedly shot dead Saba, the bride, while she was travelling in a car on her way home following her wedding reception a few days ago.

According to the Gujranwala CCD, the suspect opened fire on Saba after she refused to marry him.

A case was registered at the CCD police station on the complaint of the victim's father. Following the killing, Sarfraz had fled the area and gone into hiding in a remote region.
