ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - A heated exchange erupted in the Senate after Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi’s speech prompted a protest from Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) Senator Kamran Murtaza, triggering noisy scenes in the House.

Tensions escalated as Naqvi and Murtaza exchanged heated remarks. Responding to the senator’s protest, the interior minister insisted that he should listen to his remarks, adding that those who criticise others must also have the courage to hear their response.

During his speech, Naqvi said the state was viewed favourably as long as people benefited from it, but it was inappropriate to turn against the state when personal interests were not served.

Murtaza responded by urging the minister to watch his language.

The confrontation intensified when PML-N Senator Abid Sher Ali also lost his temper and directed harsh remarks at Murtaza, accusing him of using abusive language against mothers. The two lawmakers subsequently exchanged heated words.

To defuse the situation, Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry intervened and asked Abid Sher Ali to sit down.

Addressing the protesting lawmakers, Naqvi reiterated that parliamentary proceedings could not function if members insisted on expressing their own views while refusing to listen to others.

The interior minister further stressed the need to distinguish between political disagreements and remarks concerning state institutions, urging critics to demonstrate the patience to hear opposing viewpoints.
