PTI committee backs talks with govt, but disputes procedure

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) parliamentary committee has expressed support for negotiations with the government, although differences have emerged among party leaders over the procedure and composition of the negotiating team, according to sources.

Sources said Barrister Gohar and like-minded leaders, including Mahmood Achakzai and Raja Nasir Abbas, are in favour of pursuing dialogue with the government.

However, several PTI members have called for the formation of a dedicated negotiation committee to represent the party in the talks.

Some members have also expressed reservations about the role of opposition leaders, arguing that broader political demands could take precedence over PTI’s own demands during negotiations.

They have stressed that the party should establish its own committee to ensure its priorities remain central to the process.

According to sources, PTI members have proposed including Mahmood Achakzai and Raja Nasir Abbas in the committee while limiting their authority to negotiate on the party’s behalf.

The proposed committee would focus on securing relief for PTI founder Imran Khan and pursuing the party’s demands through negotiations with the government.

Sources added that some members favour adopting a “give-and-take” approach to reach an understanding with the government.

The internal discussions indicate that while the PTI parliamentary party broadly supports dialogue, the structure of the negotiating team, its authority and the priorities to be pursued remain key points of disagreement.
