A writer known as “America’s Nostradamus” has made three unsettling predictions about the future, warning of a potential nuclear conflict, the decline of American global power and a devastating war that could last 27 years. According to John Hogue, these events could begin unfolding by 2028.
Hogue has spent around four decades studying the prophecies attributed to Nostradamus, the 16th-century French astrologer whose cryptic writings have inspired countless interpretations over the years.
Drawing on his readings of these ancient texts, along with astrology and current geopolitical developments, Hogue believes the world could be approaching a period of extraordinary turmoil.
However, there is no independent evidence to support his predictions about future military action, economic collapse or the outbreak of a global war. His claims remain speculative interpretations rather than established forecasts.
1. America’s Decline by September 2028
Hogue predicts that the United States could suffer a dramatic loss of global power by September 11, 2028, the 27th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks.
He describes the potential outcome as the collapse of “imperial America,” linking his forecast to an astrological period he calls the “Shofar Silence,” which he says will run from September 2026 to September 2028.
According to Hogue, this period could mark a turning point in America's international influence, with consequences that may prove difficult to reverse.
His forecast paints a troubling economic picture, including rising fuel prices, severe diesel shortages and crippling inflation. He also points to America's growing national debt, political divisions and Donald Trump's leadership as factors that could contribute to the country's decline.
These claims, however, are Hogue's own interpretation of future events and should not be taken as a reliable prediction of America's economic or political trajectory.
2. Nuclear Attacks Could Trigger a Wider War
Hogue's second prediction centres on the possibility of a US nuclear strike against Iran, an event he believes could trigger retaliation across the wider region.
Speaking to The Sun, he said: “Trump is 50-50 about going ahead with a nuclear strike on Iran. It is a new pattern of danger I’ve been warning about for a long time now.”
Hogue argues that Western nations could consider using nuclear weapons if conventional military resources were depleted. He specifically points to underground Iranian nuclear facilities, including a site he calls Mount Pickaxe, as possible targets for earth-penetrating nuclear weapons.
In the scenario he describes, Iran could retaliate with missile strikes while North Korean attack drones target American naval vessels in the Arabian Sea. Hogue suggests that US aircraft carriers could be severely damaged or sunk, potentially resulting in thousands of American military casualties.
His predictions also extend to Europe, where he warns that direct European involvement in the war in Ukraine could provoke Russian hypersonic missile attacks against weapons manufacturing facilities.
He believes further escalation, potentially involving tactical nuclear weapons, could eventually lead to a third world war.
Although these scenarios describe serious potential risks, Hogue has not provided independently verified evidence that such events will occur.
3. A Global War That Could Last 27 Years
Perhaps the most alarming of Hogue's predictions is his claim that the world could face a conflict lasting 27 years.
He bases this interpretation on his reading of Nostradamus's writings, including a translated passage that reportedly contains the words “twenty-seven years of blood his war will last”.
Hogue links the prophecy to the death of a mysterious figure identified in the text as “Mabus”.
He believes this name could refer to Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, widely known as MBS. This identification is Hogue's personal interpretation, however, and there is no established evidence that Nostradamus intended the name to refer to the Saudi leader.
According to Hogue's scenario, the figure could die in an assassination, a palace coup, an aircraft crash or an explosion, potentially triggering a much wider international conflict.
He further warns that fighting could devastate oil, helium and natural gas industries across Western Asia, disrupting critical energy supplies and causing widespread economic damage.
The consequences he describes include prolonged shortages of food and water, social disorder and suffering for both people and animals. He also suggests that nuclear weapons could become part of the conflict.
As with his other predictions, this scenario rests on a speculative interpretation of historical writings rather than verifiable evidence about future events.
A Warning or Just Another Prophecy? Despite the bleak outlook, Hogue says his intention is to encourage people to recognise the dangers of conflict and choose peace over violence.
His predictions make for a dramatic warning, but Nostradamus's writings are famously cryptic, and interpretations of them vary widely. Neither astrology nor retrospective readings of centuries-old prophecies provide a reliable method for establishing that specific geopolitical events will happen by a particular date.
For now, there is no reason to treat Hogue's predictions as a countdown to catastrophe. His claims are best understood as speculative scenarios rather than evidence-based forecasts.
Still, the prospect of a 27-year global war is certainly enough to make a relaxing weekend away sound appealing. Perhaps a little time in a hot tub would be welcome — ideally with a flexible booking policy, just in case.
