LAHORE (Dunya News) – A routine traffic check in Lahore has uncovered an unusual registration case involving 2,354 motorcycles, rickshaws and other vehicles registered in the name of a single individual.
The discovery was made during a general traffic hold-up on Hall Road, when officers stopped a motorcyclist over suspected tampering with the vehicle's number plate.
According to Lahore Traffic Police, the subsequent ownership check revealed that 2,354 vehicles were registered under the name of Muhammad Usman. The records also showed that vehicles registered in his name had accumulated 2,813 electronic traffic challans, with outstanding fines totalling Rs2,866,900.
The scale of the registration records and the number of outstanding penalties prompted further checks by the authorities. Police have not established in the reported information how so many vehicles came to be registered under the same person's name. The circumstances surrounding the registrations, including whether the named individual is the actual owner of the vehicles, remain to be clarified.
The case came to light after officers stopped the motorcyclist during the Hall Road operation because of suspected interference with the number plate. The discovery was made while checking the vehicle's ownership details.
Traffic police impounded the motorcycle and sent information to the Safe City authorities to help trace the original owner.
The action comes as Lahore Chief Traffic Officer Syed Abdul Rahim Sherazi has ordered an intensified crackdown on people tampering with number plates. Authorities are stepping up enforcement against altered plates, which can complicate vehicle identification and the enforcement of traffic regulations.
