Petrol price drops by Rs1.60, diesel rises by Rs1.64 per litre

Updated on:

Pakistan cuts petrol by Rs1.60 to Rs377.71 per litre but raises diesel by Rs1.64 to Rs391.75.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The federal government has reduced petrol prices by Rs1.60 per litre but increased high-speed diesel rates by Rs1.64 under its latest petroleum price revision.

The revised rates will take effect from Friday (October 23, 2026), bringing a modest reduction in petrol costs while adding to diesel expenses for transport operators and other users.

The adjustment comes as the government continues to implement a daily fuel pricing mechanism designed to reflect international oil market movements more frequently.

New fuel rates

According to a notification issued by the Petroleum Division, petrol will now cost Rs377.71 per litre, down from Rs379.31 in the previous revision.

High-speed diesel (HSD), meanwhile, will rise from Rs390.11 to Rs391.75 per litre, an increase of Rs1.64.

The latest changes follow a series of adjustments in domestic petroleum prices under the revised pricing system. Petrol users will benefit from the latest reduction, while the diesel increase could add to operating costs for goods transport, public transport and agricultural machinery, all of which rely heavily on diesel.

Daily pricing system

The government has shifted from fortnightly and weekly reviews towards daily petroleum price adjustments amid volatility in global energy markets.

Under the new mechanism, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) calculates prices using the average international market rates recorded over the preceding seven days. Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik has said the approach follows international practices.

OGRA is authorised to announce daily ex-depot prices for petrol and high-speed diesel without seeking separate approval from the prime minister or federal government for each adjustment. However, prices announced on Fridays remain unchanged on Saturdays and Sundays.
