PTI chairman Gohar says Afridi will remain KP chief minister

PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan says Sohail Afridi will remain KP chief minister, with no organisational changes until Imran Khan returns.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan has said Sohail Afridi is the party’s chief minister in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and will continue in office, adding that no decision concerning him can be made without PTI founder Imran Khan.

Speaking to the media, Gohar said the party was proud of its members of provincial assemblies, particularly those from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

He said the provincial lawmakers stood firmly with Imran Khan and that the party founder was also proud of them. Over the past two years, PTI’s KP lawmakers had demonstrated leadership qualities, he added.

Gohar said Junaid Akbar was the party’s president and would continue in the position. He explained that he had issued Akbar’s notification on Imran Khan’s instructions. Under the party constitution, the senior vice-president assumes responsibility in the president’s absence, he added.

The PTI chairman said senior vice-president Noor-ul-Haq Qadri would preside over meetings, while other organisational matters would be handled by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa General Secretary Ali Asghar Khan.

Gohar made it clear that no changes would be made to the party’s KP organisation until Imran Khan returned. He said detailed discussions had been held with party members to address their concerns and added that an official statement would be issued today or tomorrow.
