American endurance swimmer Katherine Breed completed a 900-mile journey from Oregon to Mexico in 111 days, raising awareness about marine conservation and threats to ocean ecosystems.

SAN FRANCISCO (Web Desk) – An American endurance athlete has completed an extraordinary 900-mile swim through waters inhabited by sharks, braving rough waves, storms and other challenges to raise awareness about marine conservation.

Katherine Breed, 33, from San Francisco, became the first person to swim the entire 900-mile stretch of California’s coastal waters, according to a report by Geo News Urdu.

Breed began her journey on July 1 and reached the maritime border between the United States and Mexico on Oct. 19, completing the challenge in 111 days.

During the expedition, she swam for up to five hours daily, covering an average of 10.3 miles a day. Her support team accompanied her throughout the journey aboard a 52-foot boat.

Breed took 18 days off from swimming to rest and recover. To maintain her energy levels during the demanding challenge, she consumed more than 6,000 calories daily.

Towards the end of the expedition, she also took antibiotics to guard against an infection associated with exposure to sewage-contaminated water.

Despite encountering sharks, rough seas and storms, Breed completed the journey without reported health complications, jellyfish stings or other injuries.

She said the expedition aimed to raise awareness about the fragile marine ecosystem and highlight environmental challenges affecting the oceans.

Her achievement underscores the physical endurance required for long-distance open-water swimming while drawing attention to the importance of protecting marine habitats and combating ocean pollution.
