ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has said the Kashmir Chowk underpass will be opened to traffic soon.

Speaking to the media in the federal capital, Naqvi said work was underway to improve traffic flow, renovate parks and expand the coverage of the Safe City project in Islamabad.

He said the Kashmir Chowk underpass would be among the projects completed in the shortest possible time and would soon be opened to traffic. All trees affected by the project had been relocated, he added, while various measures were also being taken to improve traffic flow across the city.

The interior minister said F-9 Park would be renovated to make Islamabad more attractive and comfortable for residents. He said the government aimed to develop more parks on the model of F-9 Park to provide better recreational facilities and make the capital a leading destination for leisure activities.

Naqvi said the government was taking several initiatives for young people and expanding the Safe City project in Islamabad. Measures were also being introduced to improve vehicle identification and make the city's surveillance system more effective.

He said government flats in Sector G-6 would be vacated by removing illegal occupants.

Commenting on the case involving student Laiba, Naqvi described it as a sensitive matter and said the police would provide details.

The interior minister said the government was taking steps to address traffic problems, improve civic facilities, protect green spaces and expand recreational opportunities in Islamabad.
