KARACHI (Dunya News) - Jibran Nasir, counsel for Mir Raza’s family, has demanded that the government implement the judicial commission’s recommendations within 24 hours.
Speaking to the media in Karachi, Nasir welcomed the judicial commission’s report into Mir Raza’s death, saying the commission had established that he was murdered. He said the claim of suicide should now be abandoned and urged police to disclose the facts to avoid further embarrassment.
Nasir said the detailed report had not yet been received, but the recommendations and findings initially made public were welcome. He said different individuals had played separate roles in the case, adding that a key aspect of the report was the public’s loss of confidence in the police.
The counsel said intelligence-based investigations were now the only way to uncover the facts surrounding Mir Raza’s death. He maintained that those responsible could not be identified and justice could not be delivered without a complete and impartial investigation.
Nasir said the family wanted the government to immediately constitute a joint investigation team (JIT). He also referred to a recommendation that the DIG West be appointed as the JIT head.
He said the judicial commission had considered an inquiry by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) necessary against officers allegedly involved in the initial 10 days of the investigation. He added that intelligence-led inquiries could help investigators identify the perpetrators.
Nasir said the family would be satisfied only when those involved in the murder were identified and all facts surrounding the incident were brought to light. He urged the government to take immediate steps to launch the FIA inquiry and establish the JIT.
He further said the FIA inquiry could be initiated and the notification for the JIT’s formation issued within a day. He called on the government to ensure implementation of the judicial commission’s recommendations within the next 24 hours so the investigation could progress and the family could move closer to justice.
