LAHORE (Web Desk) - Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has approved a project aimed at transforming villages across the province into model communities.
A special meeting chaired by the chief minister was held to review a detailed briefing on the project to develop model villages across Punjab.
During the meeting, the provincial government decided to introduce the Khushhal Dehat Act 2026, which was formally approved by Maryam Nawaz.
It was agreed that a pilot project would immediately be launched in 120 villages across the province. Village committees will also be established in consultation with public representatives. The chief minister directed officials to form the committees promptly and submit a comprehensive implementation plan.
Under the project, the relevant assistant commissioner will head each village committee, while the deputy commissioner will oversee all committees and supervise the overall initiative. Each committee will comprise four public representatives and four government representatives, including a headteacher, a union council secretary and a doctor from a health clinic.
The meeting was informed that sewerage systems, drainage facilities and paved streets would be developed in every village under the initiative.
Maryam Nawaz said her commitment to transforming villages into model communities remained unwavering. She added that development would no longer be confined to major cities, but its benefits would reach every village in Punjab.
The chief minister said local residents would be consulted during village development projects and that quality and transparency would be ensured at all stages.
She expressed confidence that every village in Punjab would eventually become a model community, adding that members of the provincial assembly and party ticket-holders would act as custodians of development in their respective villages.
