(Dunya News) – US President Donald Trump has hit out at the Nato allies, saying they "weren't there to help" Washington during its war on Iran.
"We stand with Europe despite its flaws, its weaknesses…But if they don't soon find their way, and they have to find their way, we will have no choice but to leave," he said while addressing an election rally in Kansas.
"We spend hundreds of billions of dollars a year on Nato protecting them, but when we said, 'Would you like to help?' 'No, thank you.' 'Oh, no thank you?' What does that mean, 'No, thank you'?"
US President Donald Trump has said Washington could withdraw from the war against Iran soon, reiterating that Tehran must not be allowed to acquire nuclear weapons.
Trump claimed that Iran's military capabilities and leadership had suffered extensive damage. He said the country's navy, air force, radar networks and air defence systems had been destroyed.
Trump also claimed that 229 Iranian fighter aircraft had been destroyed on runways and that senior figures in the country's first and second leadership tiers had been eliminated. He further alleged that Iranian leaders had sought assurances that they would not be targeted in the same manner as their predecessors.
Referring to Iran policy during his first presidential term, Trump mentioned the killing of Iranian General Qassem Soleimani. He also claimed that 75,000 protesters had been killed in Iran over the past eight months.
He also called on European governments to close their borders, adding to his criticism of their existing policies.
