Rs920m scam unearthed in KP education department

Updated on:

Alleged financial irregularities amounting to Rs920 million have been reported in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Education Department during the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government

PESHAWAR (Dunya News) - Alleged financial irregularities amounting to Rs920 million have been reported in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Education Department during the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government, according to a report.

The alleged irregularities reportedly occurred during a one-year period when Shahram Khan Tarakai was serving as the provincial education minister.

According to the report, irregularities worth Rs374.3 million were identified in the provision of tablets to newly recruited teachers through district education officers.

The report further stated that tablets valued at Rs424.7 million were distributed among 15,000 individuals. A scrutiny committee was subsequently formed to investigate the matter and examine the distribution and return of the devices.

However, the committee's report found that only 1,779 tablets had been returned to the Directorate, while the remaining 13,221 tablets were reported missing.

The reported findings have raised questions about the procurement, distribution and accountability mechanisms within the provincial education department. Further investigation would be required to establish responsibility for the alleged irregularities and determine the whereabouts of the missing tablets.

During the year 22-23, irregularities worth Rs 48.7 million were reported in the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Mardan in the purchase of paper.

The award of the contract to Manzoor Nazar firm in violation of government rules and regulations caused a loss of Rs 192 million to the treasury.

The board chairman withdrew Rs 71 million in the form of executive allowance, which he was not authorized to do.

According to the audit report, the treasury was also given Rs 13 million for the purchase of smartphones.

The process of bringing the shocking stories of this strange corruption to the public has begun. Just look at how these incompetent people have ruined Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with this loot.
