KARACHI (Dunya News) - Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has urged political leaders not to politicise the fight against terrorism, saying Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman could play a role in ending the emergency.
Addressing party workers in Karachi on the 19th anniversary of the Karsaz tragedy, Bilawal said eliminating terrorism remained the country’s top priority, particularly in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where the threat continued to pose a serious challenge.
He stressed that tackling terrorism required serious and effective measures, adding that the issue should not become a source of political controversy.
Bilawal said members of Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s party had also lost their lives in terrorist attacks, expressing his expectation that the JUI-F chief would openly oppose terrorist groups.

“The fight against terrorism should not be turned into a political dispute,” Bilawal said, calling for a clear and effective stance against the threat.
Referring to the circumstances that led to the imposition of the emergency, the PPP chairman said the chief minister of one province had not been prepared to confront terrorists, leaving the authorities with little choice but to take the emergency measure.
He urged political leaders to focus on eliminating terrorism rather than making counterterrorism measures controversial.
Expressing respect for Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Bilawal said the JUI-F chief could play a constructive role in efforts to bring the emergency to an end.
