KP police seek security allowances of up to 120% of basic pay and Rs13.87 billion in additional funds for weapons, protective gear, surveillance systems and vehicles.

PESHAWAR (Dunya News) – The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police have sent a summary to the governor seeking security challenge allowances for personnel and additional funds to modernise equipment and meet operational needs.

The summary proposes a security challenge allowance equal to 120% of basic pay for police personnel in southern districts, including Dera Ismail Khan, Bannu and Kohat regions, as well as all merged districts. Personnel in other settled districts would receive an allowance equal to 100% of basic pay, while those in the Hazara region would be entitled to 75%.

The draft states that the KP police have been fighting terrorism for the past three decades and that their salaries remain lower than those of police personnel in other provinces despite their sacrifices.

The proposed allowances would add more than Rs5.159 billion to monthly expenditure, according to the summary.

The police have also requested the release of funds allocated for procurement in the fiscal year 2026-27. They have sought more than Rs11.16 billion for procurement in settled districts and over Rs3.35 billion for merged districts.

The summary calls for releasing funds earmarked for weapons, ammunition, transport, plant and machinery, ordnance stores and other equipment to maintain operational readiness.

Separately, the KP police have sought an additional Rs13.871 billion to purchase weapons, modern equipment and vehicles, citing shortages caused by budget constraints.

The proposed purchases include submachine guns, MG-1A3 rifles, 5.56mm weapons, bulletproof jackets, ballistic helmets, drones, thermal weapon sights and binoculars. The police have also requested anti-drone guns and advanced systems, armoured personnel carriers, and single- and double-cabin pickup trucks.

The summary stresses that additional funding is needed to address shortages of weapons, protective gear, surveillance systems and transport.
