LAHORE (Dunya News) – The Lahore High Court has dismissed a petition challenging the 10-day celebration of Basant in 2027, terming it unnecessary in the absence of an official notification.
Justice Shahram Sarwar Chaudhry heard the petition and asked the petitioner whether he had an official notification confirming the 10-day Basant celebrations. The judge questioned how the petition could be heard without such a notification.
The court observed that no order could be issued solely on the basis of documents available on a website.
It further remarked that, without an official notification, it could not determine whether the proposed Basant celebrations violated fundamental human rights. The judge asked the petitioner to provide the notification so the government could be questioned on the matter.
The court also expressed surprise that the registrar’s office had not raised an objection to the petition and asked the petitioner’s counsel why a fine should not be imposed.
The high court directed the petitioner to file a fresh petition along with the relevant notification.
