PESHAWAR (Web Desk) - Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi has announced compensation of Rs1 million each for the families of children killed in the school tragedy in Peshawar’s Deir Colony area and Rs200,000 for each injured person.
Governor Faisal Karim Kundi directed authorities to investigate who had issued a no-objection certificate (NOC) for the dilapidated school building during the previous government. He said anyone found responsible would be brought to justice.
The governor also visited the school and said school buildings had not been audited due to negligence by the previous government. He stressed that anyone found guilty of negligence would face punishment, regardless of their position.
He said the investigation would be completed within four days, adding that the authorities were conducting a comprehensive investigation rather than limiting themselves to a preliminary inquiry.
Kundi criticised past practices, saying previous incidents had often resulted only in photo opportunities and the formation of inquiry committees without meaningful follow-up.
He added that the investigation would examine the responsibilities of everyone involved, from the school owner to the relevant government departments.
