Faisal Vawda says democracy has failed Pakistanis, calls for system reboot

Senator Faisal Vawda criticises Pakistan’s democratic system, alleges poor governance in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and calls for political restructuring and accountability.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Senator Faisal Vawda has said that democracy has delivered nothing for the people of Pakistan, arguing that the system needs to be rebooted.

Speaking on the programme “On the Front,” Vawda shared his views on democracy, political leadership, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provincial government, counterterrorism measures and the role of the establishment.

Criticising the existing democratic system, he called for giving new people opportunities in politics, restructuring the system and taking strict action against those who do not recognise the national flag.

The senator claimed that democracy had failed to deliver meaningful benefits to Pakistanis and that the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had not received significant benefits over the past 13 years. He argued that if the provincial government had performed effectively for the public, people would have taken to the streets in its support.

Vawda also criticised the country's political leadership, saying that politicians had a long history of allegations relating to incompetence and corruption.

He further claimed that a monarchy-like system prevailed in the country, leaving poor people struggling with hardships. He stressed that the democratic system needed to be rebooted.
