Emergency in KP was inevitable amid alarming security situation, says Faisal Vawda

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Senator Faisal Vawda has said that imposing an emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had become inevitable due to the alarming law and order situation in the province.

Addressing a press conference at the Islamabad Press Club on Tuesday, Vawda said the decision to impose an emergency in KP was in the interest of the province’s people.

He said the province belonged to its people and was not anyone’s personal property. Vawda criticised the 13 years of PTI rule in the province, adding that it had resulted in widespread destruction.

Vawda said security personnel continued to lose their lives in terrorist attacks and argued that such sacrifices could not be allowed to continue while those in power acted arbitrarily.

He called on the public to stand against terrorism and urged support for efforts to eliminate the threat. He also said those who disrespected Pakistan’s national anthem and flag should be held accountable.

The senator said that around 7,500 people, including Pakistan Army personnel and police officers, had sacrificed their lives in the fight against terrorism.

Referring to the province’s new administrative setup, Vawda said Governor Faisal Karim Kundi would face questions over the government’s performance, adding that there was no room for failure. He also called for open support for the field marshal in eradicating terrorism from the region.

Vawda said the purpose of the emergency was to ensure the protection of people’s lives and property, adding that results should begin to become visible within 60 days. He said public support would increasingly depend on performance rather than political slogans.

Addressing PTI members, the senator declared that the party’s political show was over, while hinting at further developments. “Part One is over; Parts Two, Three and Four are still to come, and there could also be a Part Five,” he said.

Vawda said several matters would be brought to the attention of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman and President Asif Ali Zardari. He expressed hope that both leaders would support Pakistan’s development, describing them as senior political figures with whom he also shared personal relations.

The senator said Khyber Pakhtunkhwa could serve as a starting point for a broader reboot or restart. He also stressed the need to acknowledge the CDF Munir’s role in the country’s successes and honour the sacrifices of those killed in service to Pakistan.

Vawda expressed hope that KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi would demonstrate his ability to deliver results, adding that the new setup would have to prove its effectiveness through performance.
