BANGKOK (Dunya News) – Federal Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb has discussed Pakistan’s economic priorities, structural reforms and potential areas of cooperation with the executive secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP).
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 2026 annual meetings of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), where the two sides discussed ways to sustain progress towards economic stability in Pakistan.
Aurangzeb emphasised the importance of structural reforms and export-led sustainable economic growth, saying climate change and rapid population growth remained major challenges for the country.
The discussions also covered potential technical assistance for disaster preparedness and early warning systems, alongside cooperation in developing practical climate-related projects in Pakistan.
Both sides explored opportunities to strengthen collaboration in digital skills development, employment generation, sustainable finance and the transition towards cleaner energy.
Potential technical support for the State Bank of Pakistan was also discussed during the meeting.
Aurangzeb stressed the need to translate policy analysis into practical measures and measurable outcomes, highlighting the importance of effective implementation in achieving sustainable economic development.
The engagement reflects Pakistan’s efforts to strengthen international cooperation and secure technical support for its economic reform agenda.
For Pakistan, sustained economic stability will depend not only on macroeconomic reforms but also on expanding exports, creating employment opportunities, improving climate resilience and developing the skills needed for a changing economy.
Cooperation with UN ESCAP could support these objectives through technical expertise and policy coordination, although the details and scope of any future assistance were not specified in the available information.
