Pakistan stocks close lower after volatile trading session

Updated on:

The KSE-100 Index closed 825 points lower at 169,600 on Tuesday after rising more than 500 points during early trading before selling pressure pushed the market into negative territory.

KARACHI (Dunya News) -The Pakistan Stock Exchange witnessed a mixed trend on Tuesday, but the benchmark KSE-100 Index eventually closed in negative territory after giving up its early gains.

Trading during the second session of the business week started on a positive note, with strong buying activity pushing the benchmark index more than 500 points higher.

The KSE-100 Index climbed to an intraday high of 170,944 points, reflecting a strong opening response from investors.

However, the positive momentum could not be sustained. Selling pressure emerged during the trading session, sending the market into negative territory. The bearish trend continued until the close of business.

The KSE-100 Index ultimately fell 825 points to close at 169,600 points, according to the reported market figures.

The sharp reversal marked a volatile trading session, as the benchmark moved from a gain of more than 500 points during early trading to a substantial loss by the end of the day.

The market had also closed lower during the previous trading session. On Monday, the KSE-100 Index declined by 339 points to close at 170,425 points, remaining around the psychologically important 170,000-point level.

Tuesday's performance therefore extended the recent pressure on the benchmark index, with investors witnessing significant fluctuations during the day's trading.

The early rise suggested renewed buying interest, but the subsequent decline indicated that selling pressure remained strong enough to erase the gains recorded during the first part of the session.

Market activity remained closely watched by investors amid continuing developments affecting the country's economic and financial outlook. Changes in investor sentiment can have a significant impact on the direction of the benchmark index, particularly during volatile sessions.

The movement in the KSE-100 Index also demonstrated the sensitivity of the market to intraday buying and selling activity. Despite reaching 170,944 points, the index was unable to maintain the higher level and ended the day more than 1,300 points below its intraday peak.

With Tuesday's decline, investors will now monitor the next trading session for signs of stability and any possible recovery in the benchmark index.

The latest market performance highlights the continued volatility in Pakistan's equity market, where the direction of trading can change sharply within a single session.

For investors, the next session will provide an indication of whether buying interest returns to the market or selling pressure continues to weigh on the KSE-100 Index.
