LAHORE (Web Desk) – Pakistan’s Ansar Iqbal has qualified for the men’s long jump final at the Asian Games after producing a 7.28-metre jump, which also marked a personal best for the athlete.
Ansar secured his place in the final with his improved performance in the qualifying round, giving Pakistan another representation in the athletics competition at the continental event.
The long jump final is scheduled to be held on Monday, where Ansar will compete against the other qualifiers for a place on the podium.
His 7.28-metre effort represents an improvement on his previous personal mark and provides a significant boost to Pakistan’s athletics campaign at the Asian Games.
Meanwhile, Pakistan’s volleyball team also made a winning start to its Asian Games campaign, defeating Kazakhstan 3-1 in its opening match.
Pakistan dominated the opening two sets, winning them 25-16 and 25-22. Kazakhstan responded in the third set, securing it 25-17 to reduce the deficit.
Pakistan regained control in the fourth set and won 25-20, completing a 3-1 victory.
The Pakistani volleyball team will play its next match against Uzbekistan on Monday as it continues its campaign in the tournament.
In shooting, Pakistan’s Rabia Kabir competed in the women’s 25-metre rapid-fire event. She finished 41st among 44 shooters in the competition.
The performances across athletics, volleyball and shooting form part of Pakistan’s participation in the ongoing Asian Games, where the country is competing in multiple sports.
