ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) - The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued an alert for heavy rainfall and possible flooding in upper parts of the country from September 25 to September 30.
According to the NDMA, the intensity of a westerly weather system is expected to increase on September 25 and 26, bringing thunderstorms and rain to upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan and Islamabad.
Flash flooding is feared in mountainous areas as well as streams and seasonal waterways. In Gilgit-Baltistan, Astore, Skardu, Roundu, Ghanche and Shigar may face flood-related risks.
In Azad Kashmir, Neelum Valley, Haveli, Poonch and Sudhanoti have also been identified as areas vulnerable to possible flooding.
The NDMA warned that Swat, Bajaur, Dir, Kohistan, Battagram and Mansehra in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa could also experience flood situations.
The alert said heavy thunderstorms are expected in parts of Potohar, Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa until September 30, with hailstorms possible at some locations.
The NDMA has directed relevant departments to complete advance preparations, keep emergency response teams and necessary resources ready, and continuously monitor rainfall and the situation in streams and waterways.
