PESHAWAR (Dunya News) - The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly speaker has taken strict notice of the withdrawal of security provided to provincial lawmakers and directed relevant authorities not to discontinue, withdraw or terminate their security.
A letter issued by the principal secretary to the KP Assembly speaker to the Home and Tribal Affairs Department and the KP inspector general of police stated that security provided to members of the provincial assembly should not be withdrawn.
According to the letter, providing security to MPAs is their legal right, while lawmakers are entitled to Category-B security during their term of membership. It said withdrawing the security would constitute a violation of the law and could affect the privileges of assembly members.
The letter stated that the withdrawal of security was contrary to relevant constitutional and legal provisions. It said the legal entitlement of lawmakers to security was protected under the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Powers, Immunities and Privileges Act 2026.
The speaker directed the Home and Tribal Affairs Department and the KP IGP to ensure immediate implementation of the instructions and not to discontinue, withdraw or terminate security provided to provincial assembly members.
