LAHORE (Dunya News) – In view of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) possible long march on September 27, the Punjab government has approached the federal government seeking the deployment of the army and Rangers in several districts.
According to sources, the Punjab government has requested the deployment of Rangers in Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum and Mianwali. The Punjab Home Department has also sought the deployment of army personnel in Rawalpindi.
The deployment of the army and Rangers has been requested until October 5, according to the letter sent by the Punjab government to the federal authorities. Sources said the request was made to maintain law and order amid the expected political activity.
The matter was also discussed by the Punjab Cabinet’s Standing Committee on Law and Justice, according to sources.
Meanwhile, Islamabad Police has sought 18,000 additional personnel from Punjab and Sindh ahead of the possible PTI march.
Police sources said 16,000 personnel have been requested from Punjab Police, while another 2,000 have been sought from Sindh Police. Islamabad Police has also requested three deputy inspectors general (DIGs), seven senior superintendents of police (SSPs) and 18 superintendents of police (SPs) from the two provinces.
The requests are part of security preparations in Islamabad and surrounding areas ahead of the September 27 political activity.
