ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Senator Chaudhry Jaffar Iqbal has said that the establishment of new provinces, a presidential system and an empowered local government system is not far away.
In a statement issue here on Sunday, the senator said there was no major obstacle to creating Bahawalpur and Islamabad provinces and urged the government to take steps in this regard.
He pointed out that the Punjab Assembly had already passed a resolution in favour of Bahawalpur province in 2012.
Chaudhry Jaffar Iqbal said the feudal class was creating hurdles in the formation of new provinces because it feared losing its influence and control.
He maintained that the PML-N had been working for the creation of new administrative units for the past 12 years.
He expressed hope that reforms regarding provincial boundaries, the presidential system and local governments would be introduced in the near future.
