HYDERABAD (Dunya News) - Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) Emir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman has said the party will continue its campaign on public issues as the JI train march reached Hyderabad Railway Station on Sunday.
Hafiz Naeem was welcomed by local party workers and supporters upon his arrival in Hyderabad, with participants presenting flowers and expressing support for the campaign.
Addressing workers and supporters at the railway station, the JI emir said the party had launched a movement to raise public issues and hoped that caravans from different parts of the country would proceed towards Islamabad.
He said the campaign was not aimed at pursuing a personal or party agenda, claiming that JI was seeking to represent the concerns of citizens.
Speaking about petroleum prices, Hafiz Naeem said around Rs135 per litre was included in the price of petrol in the form of the petroleum levy.
He claimed that petrol prices could fall below Rs200 per litre if conditions in the international oil market improved, arguing that the petroleum levy was separate from international fluctuations in crude oil prices.
The JI leader also criticised government spending and privileges, attributing part of the country's economic difficulties to what he described as excessive privileges enjoyed by the ruling elite.
He said ordinary citizens and wealthier sections of society should not face an unfairly distributed tax burden.
Hafiz Naeem said government representatives had participated in negotiations with the JI but, according to him, had so far failed to offer measures that addressed the party’s demands.
He said the JI sit-in in Hyderabad had continued for 29 days and would remain in place.
The JI emir also said people from different parts of Pakistan had started travelling towards Islamabad as part of the party's campaign.
He announced that the JI caravan would travel to Rohri on Sunday as the train march continued.
Hafiz Naeem thanked women and other participants taking part in the demonstrations and reiterated that the party would continue raising what it described as the rights and economic concerns of the public.
