NEW DELHI (Web Desk) - India’s explosive left-handed opener Abhishek Sharma produced a record-breaking performance against Afghanistan, smashing a century from just 30 balls in the third T20 International.
Opening the innings for India, Sharma launched an attacking assault on the Afghan bowling attack, reaching his hundred in only 30 deliveries. He eventually finished with an outstanding 108 runs off 34 balls, including 11 sixes and nine fours.
The 30-ball century is the fastest T20 International hundred by a player representing a Full Member nation. Sharma surpassed the previous mark of 33 balls, jointly held by Zimbabwe’s Sikandar Raza and New Zealand’s Finn Allen.
However, Sharma’s achievement does not represent the overall fastest century in men’s T20 internationals. Estonia’s Sahil Chauhan holds that record after reaching three figures in just 27 balls against Cyprus in 2024. Turkey’s Mehmet Fahad is second on the all-time list after scoring a 29-ball century against Bulgaria in 2025.
Sharma’s remarkable innings helped India post 221 for seven in 20 overs after being asked to bat first. His aggressive stroke play provided the foundation for a commanding total.
Afghanistan struggled in reply and were bowled out for just 94 runs, giving India a comprehensive victory.
The result completed a 3-0 series sweep for India, while Sharma’s extraordinary innings added another landmark to his rapidly developing T20 international career.
His 30-ball century also underlined the increasingly aggressive approach of modern T20 batting, with Sharma taking advantage of the powerplay and continuing to attack throughout his innings.
