LAHORE (Dunya News) – In a tragic turn of events, two children died and their parents fell ill after eating curry which rescue officials suspected turned poisonous after a lizard fell into it, but with an assertion that a thorough probe will ascertain the cause of the casualties.
Rescue officials said that two children died and their parents were hospitalised after allegedly consuming poisonous food in Harbanspura area here on Sunday.
According to police, the incident occurred after a couple and their two children ate leftover curry, potatoes and cabbage. Shortly after consuming the food, all four family members developed serious health complications.
Rescue officials reached the scene after receiving information about the incident and shifted the affected family members to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. Despite efforts by doctors, the two children died during treatment.
Police identified the deceased children as Qadeer and Asma. Their parents remain in critical condition and are currently receiving medical care.
Following the incident, a crime scene unit and forensic experts visited the location and began collecting food samples and other evidence. The Food Department has also been called in to assist with the investigation.
According to initial observations by forensic experts, the food may have been contaminated after a lizard allegedly fell into it. However, officials stressed that the exact cause of the deaths will only be determined after forensic testing and completion of the investigation.
Police have launched a further investigation into the incident, while samples and other evidence have been sent for examination to establish the actual cause of the poisoning.
