TEHRAN (Dunya News) - Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has said that talks scheduled to take place in Oman on Monday will focus on a new maritime route through the Strait of Hormuz, with Tehran set to present details of an agreement with Oman and a map of the proposed route.
In an interview with an Arab television channel, Araghchi stressed that the agreement with Oman should not be interpreted as meaning that Iran would reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
The Iranian foreign minister said the United States would first need to comply with the memorandum of understanding reached in Islamabad before the Strait could be reopened.
Araghchi further said responsibility for maintaining security and stability in the region rested solely with countries in the region.

He expressed hope that the Oman talks would pave the way for broader consultations in the future on key regional issues.
The Strait of Hormuz is a strategically vital waterway linking the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman and the wider Arabian Sea.
Any disruption to maritime traffic through the strait could have significant implications for global energy markets and international shipping.
The upcoming talks in Oman are therefore expected to draw close regional and international attention.
