KARACHI (Dunya News) - A power outage at the Dhabeji pumping station on Sunday disrupted the operation of several water pumps, prompting the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) to warn that water supply to parts of the city could be affected.
According to a KWSC spokesperson, electricity supply to multiple sections of the Dhabeji pumping facility was suspended at around 6am. K-Electric said the outage was caused by a fault in its cable system.
The electricity breakdown affected the third and fourth phases of the pumping station as well as the K-III pump house, leaving 10 of the facility’s 21 pumps out of service.
Dhabeji is one of Karachi’s key water supply facilities, and disruptions at the pumping station can have an immediate impact on the supply of water to various parts of the city.
The KWSC spokesperson said the corporation was in continuous coordination with K-Electric to ensure that power was restored as soon as possible.
He added that the affected pumps would resume operations immediately after electricity was restored, while water supply in the affected areas would return to normal shortly thereafter.
K-Electric, meanwhile, attributed the damage to the cables to a fire that broke out in vegetation near the site.
A spokesperson for the power utility said its technical team was present at the location where the cables were damaged by the fire. The company was also coordinating with KWSC to facilitate an early restoration of electricity.
