ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan has said that the party and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) have agreed to form a joint opposition in the Senate and National Assembly.
Speaking to the media after meeting JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman in the federal capital, Barrister Gohar said the opposition would adopt a joint strategy in Parliament and all political parties would be taken into confidence on major national issues.
He said discussions were held with Maulana Fazlur Rehman regarding the joint opposition, adding that an agreement on establishing a joint opposition in both houses had already been reached. He described the meeting as the first formal engagement on the joint opposition and termed it a positive development.
Barrister Gohar said all political parties would be consulted on national issues. He added that an All Parties Conference (APC) would be convened on important matters, including the issue of provinces. Joint consultations would also be held on parliamentary sessions and matters concerning prisoners.
He said the future course of action would be decided through the joint opposition platform and meetings between opposition parties would continue.
Meanwhile, Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri welcomed the opposition’s engagement, saying the consultative meeting also discussed convening an APC. He said various important issues, including the creation of new provinces, came under discussion.
Haideri said the APC would discuss the wave of unrest in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, terrorism and other challenges facing the country. He added that the opposition would seek to play its role in addressing the issues confronting Pakistan.
