LAHORE (Web Desk) - Air quality in Lahore is expected to remain moderate today as winds from the southeast and east are blowing at speeds of 5 to 9 miles per hour.
According to the Environment Department, increased wind speeds will help disperse air pollutants more effectively, leading to further improvement in air quality during the day. Lahore’s Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 135, with a further decline expected.
Winds shifting from the southeast toward the east and from the east toward the west are considered favorable for reducing the concentration of pollutants in Lahore’s atmosphere.
Meanwhile, anti-pollution measures are continuing across Punjab on the directives of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif. On September 10, authorities conducted 1,290 inspections across the province over violations of environmental laws and sealed 123 units and locations.
During the crackdown, 11 kilns were demolished, eight cases were registered and fines totaling Rs31.9 million were imposed. Authorities also inspected 473 brick kilns, sealing two and registering seven cases.
As part of action against industrial pollution, 259 industrial units were inspected, resulting in 19 units being sealed and fines of Rs19.5 million being imposed.
Authorities also inspected 289 restaurants to enforce regulations requiring suction hoods to control smoke emissions, sealing 94 establishments for violations.
Senior Punjab Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb said monitoring, effective enforcement and technology-based measures were continuing to ensure clean air across Punjab, adding that no leniency would be shown toward polluters.
