PSX rebounds sharply, KSE-100 closes above 170,000 after volatile session

Pakistan stocks staged a dramatic recovery on Friday, with the KSE-100 Index gaining 1,646 points to close at 170,511 after early heavy selling.

KARACHI (Dunya News) – The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) staged a strong comeback on Friday as the benchmark KSE-100 Index recovered from steep early losses and closed above the 170,000-point level.

Trading began under intense selling pressure, with the benchmark index plunging by more than 2,500 points to around 166,141 points during the opening phase of the session.

The market remained under pressure through the first session, which ended with the KSE-100 Index down 668 points at 168,196.

Bearish sentiment initially continued into the second session, but the market witnessed a sharp turnaround as buying activity returned. The recovery gathered momentum during trading and continued until the close.

By the end of the session, the KSE-100 Index had gained 1,646 points to settle at 170,511, marking a significant intraday recovery and restoring the psychologically important 170,000-point threshold.

The rebound was particularly notable after Thursday's heavy losses, when the benchmark index had fallen 3,078 points to close at 168,865.

Friday's wide intraday swings highlighted continued volatility at the PSX, with the index moving from a steep early decline to a strong positive close within the same trading day.

The recovery may provide some relief to investors following the previous session's sharp sell-off, although the scale of intraday fluctuations indicates that market sentiment remains sensitive.
