PESHAWAR (Dunya News) - Four suspects allegedly involved in a gang rape case were killed in a shootout with unidentified attackers within the jurisdiction of Rehman Baba Police Station on Thursday, police said.
According to a police spokesperson, the suspects were being taken by police to identify the scene of the alleged incident when unidentified individuals opened indiscriminate fire on the police party.
The spokesperson said all four suspects in police custody were killed in the attack, while the police officers accompanying them remained safe.
The deceased suspects were identified as Amir, Jalal and Amdas, while the identity of the fourth suspect was not immediately disclosed.
According to Peshawar CCPO, the suspects were allegedly involved in the gang rape of women at gunpoint four days earlier. Police said the accused had allegedly entered a house in Shab Garhi Mosam Khan by climbing over its boundary wall and committed the crime.
Police subsequently arrested the suspects and recovered the weapon allegedly used in the incident.
Following the shootout, police launched a search operation to trace the unidentified attackers. Further investigation into both the original case and the shooting incident is underway.
