KARACHI (Dunya News) - Pakistan received $3.66 billion in workers’ remittances in August 2026, registering a strong 16.5% increase from a year earlier and providing continued support to the country’s external account, according to State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) data.
The latest figures showed that remittance inflows also increased 0.7% month-on-month, maintaining the strong momentum recorded after Pakistan received an all-time high of $41.6 billion from overseas workers during FY26.
Cumulative remittances during the first two months of the current fiscal year — July and August — reached $7.29 billion, representing growth of about 14.7% year-on-year.
Adviser to the Finance Minister Khurram Schehzad, commenting on the latest figures, said the sustained inflows remained an important pillar of Pakistan’s external account, supporting household incomes, foreign exchange liquidity, reserves and overall external-sector resilience.
Saudi Arabia continued to be the single largest source of workers’ remittances during August.
Pakistanis working in the kingdom sent home $873 million, representing a 19% increase from $737 million in August last year. The inflows, however, were around 4% lower than the $914 million received from Saudi Arabia in July.
The United Arab Emirates emerged as the second-largest source, contributing $750 million during August.
Remittances from the UAE increased 17% year-on-year from $643 million and were also 2% higher than the $737 million recorded in July.
The United Kingdom remained another major contributor, with Pakistani workers sending $564 million during the month, while inflows from the United States stood at $309 million.
The figures underline the continuing importance of Gulf countries to Pakistan’s remittance economy, with Saudi Arabia and the UAE together accounting for more than $1.62 billion of August inflows.
During July-August FY27, cumulative remittances from Saudi Arabia reached $1.787 billion, up 15% from $1.560 billion during the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year.
The UAE contributed $1.487 billion during the first two months of FY27, representing a 14% increase compared with $1.308 billion received during the same period last year.
Other Gulf Cooperation Council countries contributed $327 million during August, reflecting year-on-year growth of 8%, while inflows from other global destinations stood at $338 million, up 16%.
The broad-based increase across major remittance corridors provides an encouraging start to FY27 after the record performance witnessed in the preceding fiscal year.
