ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday met a delegation of prominent industrialists and business leaders, reiterating his government’s commitment to boosting exports and maintaining consultation with the private sector on economic policies.
Welcoming the delegation, the prime minister said the government valued the contribution of traders and industrialists to the national economy.
He recalled that the government had also held consultations with industrialists before the federal budget, saying engagement with the business community had remained an important part of the economic decision-making process.
Shehbaz said the government had undertaken fundamental economic reforms through consultation despite difficult circumstances and would continue working with the private sector to address challenges facing businesses and exporters.
“We have to increase our exports,” the prime minister said, adding that the government would work to overcome obstacles standing in the way of higher exports.
He described export-led economic growth as one of the government’s top priorities, stressing that stronger exports were essential for sustainable economic development.
The prime minister also said that government enforcement measures had resulted in the recovery of Rs800 billion during one year.
He said further measures aimed at increasing exports would be formulated through consultation with the business community, underlining the importance of cooperation between policymakers and the private sector.
Members of the business delegation thanked the prime minister for including industrialists and traders in the consultative process.
They urged the government to maintain regular engagement with the private sector, saying continued consultation between the government and business community would be beneficial for the country’s economy.
