KARACHI (Dunya News) – The Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) has installed an advanced surveillance system in the runway area of Jinnah International Airport, enabling round-the-clock monitoring of runways and their surroundings.
The new system uses modern cameras capable of monitoring aircraft movement and parking operations, while providing clearer surveillance of runway areas even during nighttime and low-light conditions.
According to officials, the technology is expected to strengthen security around the runways and enable airport authorities to identify suspicious activities in a timely manner.
The surveillance upgrade will also improve monitoring of airside operations at Jinnah International Airport, one of Pakistan’s busiest aviation hubs.
A PAA spokesperson said the airport’s airside department would be able to use the system to detect the presence of animals around runways during aircraft landings and takeoffs.
The early detection of such hazards is particularly important for maintaining safe aircraft operations and reducing risks around active runways.
The cameras will also allow relevant teams to keep a closer watch on aircraft parking and movement across designated operational areas.
According to the Pakistan Airports Authority, installation of the advanced surveillance system is part of efforts to modernise airport security and monitoring infrastructure through the use of new technology.
The authority said improved surveillance would enhance operational oversight at Jinnah International Airport while helping airport teams respond more quickly to potential security and safety concerns.
