LAHORE (Dunya News) – Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari has said that 54 officers and officials have so far been suspended or dismissed during the province-wide crackdown against corruption.
Azma Bokhari said Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz had announced a campaign against corruption and made its elimination from all provincial departments her mission.
She added that 48 officers and officials had been arrested in the Food Department alone.
The provincial information minister said six employees had been dismissed from service, while disciplinary proceedings were under way against 14 food controllers.

She added that a contractor was arrested over overcharging in the parking area of Victoria Hospital Bahawalpur, while the parking overcharging contract at Chichawatni THQ Hospital had been cancelled.
Azma Bokhari said corruption had become a scourge in society and that the crackdown against it was continuing without discrimination. She maintained that no one would be targeted and said the people were standing with Maryam Nawaz in efforts to eliminate corruption, while the action against corruption in Punjab was receiving widespread public support.
She said Maryam Nawaz had ensured implementation of every decision she took and had never been concerned about criticism or negative propaganda. According to Azma Bokhari, false propaganda and personal criticism had not weakened Maryam Nawaz but had instead made her stronger.
