GILGIT (Dunya News) - Heavy rain and cloudburst-triggered flash floods disrupted daily life in parts of Gilgit-Baltistan, blocking roads, damaging homes and agricultural land and affecting electricity supplies in Ghizer and Hunza.
Flash floods swept through several areas of Ghizer early Saturday, damaging houses, crops and orchards. In Naubahar village, floodwaters damaged the Gushgush Jamaat Khana and destroyed fruit trees, crops and agricultural land.
The flooding also blocked the road linking Immit with Barjangle and damaged power transmission lines along the route. Residents in affected areas were cut off and called on the administration to take urgent steps to restore road links and provide assistance to families who suffered losses.
According to the Gilgit-Baltistan police spokesperson, the Karakoram Highway was completely closed between Sost and Khunjerab Top because of landslides. Relevant departments were working to clear the highway, while tourists were advised to avoid unnecessary travel.
Meanwhile, the tourism police said traffic had resumed on the KKH section between Murtazaabad and Hassanabad in Hunza after landslides had blocked the route.
