KARACHI (Dunya News) - Doctors at the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) in Karachi have saved the life of a 12-year-old boy by successfully removing a bullet lodged in his heart during a complex emergency cardiac surgery.
The boy, from Khuzdar district in Balochistan, sustained critical injuries after being shot in the heart.
He was transported from Khuzdar to Karachi in extremely critical condition for specialized treatment.
Upon arrival at NICVD, echocardiography confirmed the presence of a bullet lodged in the child’s heart. His condition was considered critical due to the bullet’s location.
According to NICVD, the child was transferred to the emergency operation theatre just minutes after the bullet was detected.
A complex cardiac procedure was then performed under the supervision of Professor Sohail Khan Bangash.

The approximately two-hour operation was successful, with surgeons removing the bullet from the child’s heart.
Pediatric cardiac surgeon Dr Saad Badr was also part of the surgical team, while Dr Abdul Sattar Sheikh and Professor Amin Khawaja, along with other specialists, contributed to the procedure.
Following the successful surgery, the child was shifted to the intensive care unit for further monitoring and treatment.
NICVD said he is recovering rapidly under the supervision of its specialist medical team.
Professor Sohail Khan Bangash said the child’s life was saved through swift decision-making and coordinated medical efforts.
